Discoveries at Pta Universitatii
So, if, for example, mosaics or some other kind of archaeological treasure was to be unearthed during the 'digging' at the site of the future so-called underground carpark, the project would continue anyway??! City Hall Investment Department's head, Bogdan Hreapca, said nothing will prevent the work on the underground carpark. Really? Nothing? Would he know something was of archeological importance if it fell on his foot? Doubtful. And the department wouldn't care anyway... the city needs a solution to its parking problems so let's bung it there, uproot those marvellous old statues and cause yet another scar on the suffering complexion of old Bucharest.

Wall structures and water pipes dating back to 18th-19th century, discovered in University Square
Wall structures and two water pipes dating back to the 18th-19th century were discovered in Bucharest's University Square, during diggings at the site of an underground parking lot that is to be built where the statues of Mihai Viteazu, Spiru Haret, Heliade Radulescu and Gheorghe Lazar were located, according to Mediafax.
"The works are in their early stages now, but we found some wall structures and two water pipes from the 18-19th century. Until we finish the archeological survey of the area, we cannot tell for sure whether the University parking lot can be done or not," said construction site chief Andrei Magureanu.
He added that after the archeological survey is completed, a report will be filed with the Ministry of Culture. Ministry specialists will make a decision about the construction works in the University area, Magureanu said.
The head of the City Hall Investment Department, Bogdan Hreapca said nothing will prevent the works on the University underground parking lot. "Nothing can stop our works, we found some pavement from the 19th century, but nothing of archeological importance. We wait for specialists to decide," Hreapca said.
