Florentina fires her lawyer. Bravo!

Amongst a lot to report today, This article from Adevarul states that Florentina Carstea has regular visits from her husband and also that she has been seen by a psychologist. I should think so, too.

CLPopescuThe reeeeeeally good news of the day is that Florentina has fired Simona Parvu (hurrah!) and been taken on by Corneliu Liviu Popescu, a professor at the University of Law with excellent credentials. Let's hope he is able to undo the wrongs already sown by Parvu on one side and Iacob on the other... Corneliu Popescu was a judge at the European Court of Justice, and an independent expert at the European Council as well as a Government Expert at the same aforementioned European Council, the Commitee of Experts for the protection of human rights. Exactly what she needs, if you ask me.

His specialist areas are international law of human rights, international humanitarian law and a bunch of others besides. He is completely contactable (which is more than can be said for Iacob whose CV is visibly absent on line) with all necessary information including CV pertaining to scientific research, etc. easy to acquire. He has an office in down-town Bucharest (Kogalniceanu) just round the corner from Cismigiu.

In Jan 2009, he openly criticised Traian Basescu for wanting to amend the Constitution, claiming that it would lead to an authoritarian regime that would allow for errors (see Hotnews). As a result, he withdrew from the presidential commision, which indicates at least to me that he cannot be bought and is an upholder of the law, genuinely concerned for his clients and the state of the justice system. Let's hope this is a real improvement. As things stand, things can't get a whole lot worse.

Liviu Popescu was not a judge at the European Court of Human Rights. The only Romania Judge was the current one Corneliu Barsan. Corneliu Liviu Popescu's CV is not really truth. As it was written in the press that Popescu was a great supporter of the Ceausescu's regime when he was in the School of Law during communism. That are other faiures in his CV.

Well, if anyone can make a difference to this ludicrous heap of accusations against her and undo the wrongs thrown by Parvu and Iacob, then I hope he's our man. i think he is. With human rights as his speciality and knowing how things are conducted elsewhere in the interantional community, he, better than anyone else, will be able to make the right statements. When someone has good experience in exchanges outside the country, they can fight all the harder for they know how things should be. He is a great orator and has a very powerful command of his use of words. I am confident, Balbeck, that Florentina will get her fair trial. If she doesn't, he will cause a scandal for he is a man, I believe, who cannot be bought nor swayed when it comes to helping the underdog. Fingers crossed.

I hope that mr Corneliu Liviu Popescu can help mrs Florentina Carstea. It seems to be a very easy case for him,but in romania it isn`t.We have a very strange justice,in fact it is injustice. She is in jail. For her it is the most dificult. She is crying, she is thinking about her family, about her child, about her husband, etc.

I am greatly relieved that a man of such prestige like Mr. Corneliu Liviu Popescu has taken her case. I have full confidence in his professional experience and exposure at CEDO; I hope he will help Florentina get a lighter sentence.
