Dear Everyone, Not much time has lapsed since the last entry, but never mind. I have a little news for you. How are you all? Work has begun again at BC: placement testing yesterday and today, and from tomorrow new students, programmes, levels, class content and time table, which will take a bit of time to get acclimatised to. The good news is I won't have to go off to Otopeni twice a week at the crack of dawn anymore. Thank goodness for that. This term, my off-site is at Unirii (direct on the metrou), four times a week at 8h30... [Lire la suite]

Dear Everyone, Oh my Looooooooooooord! Woke up this morning to find snow half way up the window! Never seen anything like it! Had to wait for Mr. Dulcescu to come and dig me out of my cave so I could go to the supermarket! Bucharest is silent underneath its blanket of whiteness, and if it wasn't so annoying, it would be stunningly gorgeous! For a country that's had snow in winter for hundreds of years, I can't understand why it always makes breaking news and life comes to a halt! All trains to and from Bucharest have been cancelled... Happy New Year!

Dear Everyone, I hope you all had a lovely end of the old year and a joyful start to the new. My 2007 ended beautifully with Lidia, Manny, Nick, Rodica and Lidia's mum in Brasov. I've never liked New Year as there are so many loved and lost I miss at this time. But Manny was a star in the food department, Lidia the hostess with the mostest, Rodica full of stories - what a bundle of energy she is - and Nick was his usual distinguished self, even crooning some French songs at the table. He arrived complete with fish scales in his... [Lire la suite]

Dear Everyone, Happy New Year, one and all! I just received this from Michael, and was so glad to read it that I wanted to share it with you at once. No time this evening (or energy) to write about my wonderful New Year with Lidia and Marian, but I shall do so tomorrow or the day after, as I still have a New Year with Lucia, George and Mihai to enjoy - then I can give you my news all in one go. I had really a lovely Reveillon and I'm still feeling totally stuffed with food and warm to my toes with so much love and kindness. ... [Lire la suite]

Last entry for 2007

Dear Everyone, As I shall be leaving tomorrow for Brasov, this is my last message before the New Year. Where has the time gone? The speed at which these last 12 months have sped by is really quite scarey. It's been a lovely day here in Bucharst. I woke to see a light sprinkling of snow in the courtyard. Very cold and icy, but sunny with an azure blue sky. My back seems to have recovered from varza (cabbage) mode after a good night on Titi's bed, and I danced off to meet a friend in front of the Theatre Odeon this afternoon having... [Lire la suite]

Christmas with Mariana, the Winter Festival and back to Bucharest

Wow! What an incredible Christmas it's been! It all began with a night train to Cluj. After a student breakfast of coffee, bread and nutella, we hit the road and made it to Sighet in four and a half hours. Mariana was waiting with a huge lunch (the shape of things to come), heaps of news, and her usual loveliness. Boy, was it cold! The sub-zero temperature hit me with a thwack in the chops - It was even too cold for snow, despite the blanket covering the mountains just an hour away. Christmas Eve was a quiet day, so Mariana decided... [Lire la suite]

Happy Christmas!

Dear Everyone, Well, this is it. 'Deck the halls with boughs of holly, falalalalaaaaaaa lalalala!...' etc... I leave in an hour and will be back in Bucharest on Thursday 28th December all being well. It's been a hectic week despite no work, and has gone by in a bit of a whirl. Hat shopping with Ruth, Pre-Christmas with dear Lucia and George, the carol service at the Anglican Church (how lovely to can belto the carols that reminded me so much of St. Paul's and Christmas's past...) with Gaby and drinks afterwards with... Weekly Update

Dear Everyone, What a busy week it's been and only now do I have the time to sit and write you an update, hoping, as always, not to forget anything for a complete summary of life here in Bucharest. It was the last week of term at work: last classes, last exams, marking, trying to get all the info onto the computer in the right columns (Excel...aaaaagh!) so nice little certificates would pop out of the printer with all the correct information (all of you who know my computer science prowess will understand immediately what an utter... May I present Gradinitsa (Kindergarten in Romanian), the site for our 'partner' association also based in France and here in Romania, managed by Lidia Bloc - an incredible lady full of energy, courage and determination. Gradinitsa is active at the creche as well as elsewhere. Please go to the link and check it out!

A site for you!

This site belongs to René (see links Le Monde de Renatus), who supports the creche in Sighet, knows Mariana, Ileana and everyone and, well...t it's a small world. I fell upon it quite by accident during a night of insomnia on-line, saw the photos and thought, 'hey, hang on a minute! I know this place!' - as full of love for Romania as I am, his site is great - aaaand it's in French - good news for all you chaps and chapesses in Paris fed up with having to translate all my ramblings. Please go check it out and post your comments.
