Enescu's house at Mihaileni now a Historic Monument! Bravo Raluca Stirbat!
(Photo source) How lovely it is to have some good news to report for a change.
Some months ago, I wrote a post HERE on the appalling neglect and frighteningly imminent destruction of George Enescu's mother's house in Mihaileni, Moldova where he spent time during childhood, youth and adulthood (and later owned).
Pianist and President of the International George Enescu Society in Vienna, Raluca Stirbat, made it her hell-bent raison d'être to see the house saved and registered on the list of Romania's Historic Monuments, and, after months of tireless, tenacious battling (articles, radio and TV interviews, etc), she has succeeded. Thanks to Raluca's determined international online campaign, the house today has been recognised a Historic Monument.
On FB, Raluca thanks Victor Eskenasy, Radio Europa Libera, Suplimentul de Cultura, Norman Lebrecht, Artsjournal, Andrei Badin and B1TV, Stefan Botez, Keno Verseck and Deutsche Welle, Stefan Costache and Radio Romania Muzical for their support. That's a very impressive list! Bravo everyone, and particularly, congratulations to Raluca!! Fantastic result!
"Thank you!" wrote Raluca on her wall this morning to all those who had supported the cause. "The real success will be when the house is renovated and we can have a concert there!"
Asa sa fie!
