Thank God! The horses of Letea are safe...at least, for now.

THERE WILL BE NO SLAUGHTER!!!!!
The horses are now safe at a farm in Ianca, Braila. You can see photos HERE via Facebook, showing they are out of the trucks, in a paddock or being treated by vets after the hell they have had to live through. Two horses have died from their wounds while the others are severely dehydrated, all with injuries. If you can donate for help so urgently required, please see HERE. Everything is needed: water, food, enclosures for the horses etc. They could also do with a lawyer.
No one seems to know quite what will happen next. They will, it seems, be kept in Braila for two weeks, but then? There are two scenarios. The first is that they will be sent back to the Danube. The second is a plan for adoption. Both scenarios are rather absurd. Returning them to the Danube will cause the same mis en scène all over again. They have to eat, will continue to eat the tree bark which was the reason this scandal began in the first place, for in doing so, the forest is being destroyed. Sending them back is NOT the solution. The second scenario is just as silly. One cannot adopt wild horses. So, what to do?
Personally, I couldn't understand why the horses were not simply transported to another forest in another part of Roumania - a civilised solution to the problem. It was done with bears so why not horses? They have the right to live freely in their natural habitat, left alone in peace without the threat of human cruelty and being targets for profit. If they are returned to the Delta, we will be looking at this same unfolding of events once more - and in any case, the people who caught them, tortured them and made claim to them simply cannot be trusted. They'd sell their grandmas for 10 lei.... They should all be charged with abuse, fraud, theft and any other crime one can pile on them. I was told that the forests in Roumania are all being destroyed by thieves... To see more on this, look no further than this link just received. It makes odious reading. Presumably, there is nowhere for the horses to go...
The news though, at least, for now, is that these beautiful animals are safe. Traumatised, wounded, but safe. It is marvellous to see the huge wave of public indignance this has caused. Let's hope a solution will be found for the two so far discussed are both useless. Watch this wonderful video HERE as the horses recover and spare a prayer of thanks...
