And so Cristi Paturca was laid to rest today not at all as he had planned, but nevertheless, the final goodbyes have now been said, en masse, and wonderfully captured for posterity HERE by TVR. A great sadness tonight to discover that Cristi Paturca's family have decided to have him buried at Bellu. One could not really get further from his wishes to be cremated and have his ashes scattered at Pta Universitatii than to end up at Bellu. It's an honour, yes, and he will doubtless be within strumming distance of Florin Pitis and Valeriu Sterian but it was not what he desired and I am quite horrified that someone's final wishes could be so glibly ridden rough-shod over... The passing of Cristi Paturca has more elements to it than we in the west can ever know. For those of us who have connections with and love Roumania, his death resounds with great sadness, an echoing of enormous disappointment and nostalgia. Cristi Paturca died aged 46 of TB, oesophageal varices and cirrhosis. He had no intention of ever giving up alcohol or cigarettes and was found dead at home in Drumul Taberei. News on the little boy sold in Alfortville, France: Pierre Michel was taken from Fiuruta Lingurar by the French Child Protection Office and is currently in care in Alfortville. It appears that Lingurar (ex-Zimbru) was arrested in Timisoara as she got off the bus, but was later released. She is not allowed to leave Roumanian territory and will be judged in liberty. (photo source) Newspapers on Wednesday reported en masse of how Roumanian authorities have started proceedings to repatriate a child sold in France in 2004, paid for in installments. The Rroma family from Salaj sold their baby for EUR 5,100 to another Rroma family, the Zimbrus, already settled in Alfortville, France. It appears that the baby's parents went to France to find work when Rodica Lacatus (29) was expecting the little boy. Florentina's trial date has been moved to 7th February and she is accused of involuntary manslaughter. Apparently, the 'negligence' plea does not exist in Roumanian legislation which is a massive omission in my humble opinion. She will be joined in the dock by Marinescu, Dima, Oprea and Tomas and depending on the papers you read, the order of culprits changes...
