Roxana's final act

I am so terribly sad to read this evening of Roxana Briban's suicide. The talented soprano was found by her husband yesterday and impossible to revive. Reports say she had suffered from depression since being fired from the National Opera last year after nine years of service although Catalin Arbore, the director, insists that she resigned. Whatever the gossip mongers and trash press may make of this and before a Madalina Manole Part II telenovelo proceeds, I would just like to thank Roxana for her beautiful voice and for touching the hearts of music lovers everywhere. Not only was she technically excellent, but she had marvellous stage presence, too. Such a loss and with so much of her life and career still ahead of her - she was thirty-nine years old.
