It's not over yet...

asistenta_florentina_carstea_va_fi_eliberata_din_arest_79503The crap one reads when looking at comments under articles in the press... Okay, one also gets extremely good comments full of great info and excellent reflection but there are some, frankly, that makes me wonder whether the person who bothered to write it actually read the article itself or any other, for that matter. Devoid of common sense, logic and decency...

There have been some concerning our Florentina that has really made me wonder on their capacity of understanding written imput. They seem to continually harp on about two issues - the first that Florentina was at a party when she should have been looking after the babies. Here's a comment back from your's truly: Florentina has always maintained that she was never at any party and those who HAD been have also always maintained that she wasn't, so give that argument a break as it's complete rubbish. Florentina went to the bathroom and then stopped to check on a colleague who was also alone with her little patients. In addition, it is clear these commentors haven't read the expertise documents from Petrosani (see HERE) on the cause and consequences of the fire. One can see very clearly from the PDF document at the bottom of the article that even if Florentina had been in the room, the fire engulfed the space so fast due to compressed air tanks and wooden cupboards that served as fodder (and should never have been in the room anyway) she couldn't have saved the babies and would probably have even ended up as a victim herself.

The second issue: That Florentina Cirstea left the room without permisson. Utter piffle. It does not say in her contract that she had to stay in one room for 12h without moving because Florentina had to leave the babies room on several occasions throughout any of her long 12h shifts to sterilise equipment and medical material, check on colleagues on other wards and disinfect bottles for the babies feeds. Had she never left the room, as some idiots say should have been the case, none of these jobs would have been done which would, in a worst case scenario, have lead to malnourished babies and infection risks. So anyone sticking to the stupid argument that she had no right to leave the room clearly doesn't have any idea what it means to work on an ITU and should thus keep their mouths shut before having first found out. Cretins....

So, there are the two slandering subjects that seem to come from those thinking Florentina is indeed guilty of manslaughter: one, she was at a party (crap) and two, she shouldn't have left the room (equally crap)... I do so wish people would read the info so readily offered in decent, trustworthy newspapers (though I do have to say that the media have been scandalously bad at reporting accurately and fairly on this case) or on blogs that have devoted themselves to supporting her, such as Dreptate Pentru Florentina where one can find intelligent commentaries written by friends and colleagues of Florentina, read articles, look at documents (the expertise from Petrosani previously mentioned), videos of Florentina's mum appealing for her release, letters of support from colleagues, mothers of babies she had nursed and her own neighbours, petitions (one of which can be found on Facebook and now has over 3000 signatures) and links to other blogs such as the Balbeck Blog, Simona Ionescu and others who have supported Florentina throughout these terrible days since her arrest on 24th August. If they did, then such ridiculous, low-life and ill informed remarks would not be found willy-nilly all over the web. It amazes me that people just don't seem to realise what utter tosh they are capable of spewing and have no idea as to the pain their words cause.

Florentina is now, at last, released, but it is far from being the end of the story. The absurd charges of manslaughter and grievous bodily harm are still held against her when she is the one person in this terrible case who is NOT responsible for the above accusations - Florentina did NOT cause the fire. She was not responsible for it. She was not to blame for the absence of fire detection equipment, the dodgy wiring and the technical negligence. Dima was. Marinescu was. And yet they are charged only with negligence while Florentina, the dedicated nurse who so loved her job and her patients, is left to carry the can for this dreadful tragedy - she is the direct victim of indifference, lazyness, incompetence and sheer incapacity of others. Florentina is nothing more than the scapegoat for she doesn't have high-placed connections, no one owes her a favour in places that matter and she isn't rolling in money like Marinescu. Asa e. That's how the justice system rolls in Roumania. Some say she is looking at 5 years in jail. Some say a great deal more. I say that the time she has served under preventive arrest has been way punishment enough for any negligence on her part which I consider miniscule compared to everyone else involved : Marinescu, Dima, Ranga, Savu, Cseke, Oprescu and Boc. They are the true culprits of this atrocious catastrophe that has not only claimed the lives of 6 new born babies but has also made the life of Florentina Cirstea a true nightmare.

I pray that she gets a fair trial, for the whole investigation with regards to her has been a total abortion of justice and professionalism. Despite Maitre Popescu's declaration and complaint of the abuse of human rights on the part of the police and the prosecution, excuses were found and facts covered, responsibility of breechings denied. Of course.

Florentina was never a pericol public. Her continual incarceration has been something of a mystery to many. Why was she kept under lock and key for so long? Some think it was for her own good for there are some nasty, angry people out there - and that is thanks to the media. Others say that it is political. As long as she is out of sight, she will be out of mind and thus faith in the health service can be restored. Excuse me? How stupid does the government think people are??? They mistrusted the health service long before 16th August. But Florentina has become the symbol of all that is wrong and necrotic in Roumania - not just the health service, but the INjustice system too, which, I am sure, will declare her guilty of manslaughter in the end because it's either her or Marinescu. Do the maths. Who has the money and the connections? Not our Florentina. I hope I am wrong.

During this period pre-trial, we must not give up proclaiming Florentina's innocence. She has admitted negligence and that's all there is for her to state. The fire wasn't her fault. She wasn't an engineer. She was a nurse. She gave and saved lives. She did not rip them away from the souls in those incubators. Others did that and the lawyers I hope will prove that to be the case. Please keep signing the petitions, leaving your comments on articles and writing letters of support. We cannot stop yet. There is more of a battle still to come.

We have a new law,the judges can`t arrest so easy as until now,it will be better.I hope that the judges will apply it.

The lawyers must stress the fact that the hospital's personnel is uber-stressed and deficitary.
I hope the judges won't leave off the context in which this tragedy happened, because Florentina's case is purely circumstantial. The boot-lickers prosecutors will try to blame all of it on her, that's what a flawed and criminal system does, it tries to find scapegoats in these circumstances.
N
If their "justice" is somehow tuned to the opinion of the people, we should continue to advocate her cause and start a new petition with "Pentru o judecata dreapta si a Florentinei".
M
nobody truly beleived Florentina was guilty.
great article, Sarah!
