Photography project in Lipscani

I'd like to add to this article from Nine O'Clock that the historical centre of Bucharest is not only 'degrading', it is being actively and purposefully destroyed by people like Stefan Damien and his cronies whose faith lies in money rather than morality, homage, respect or history. Taking bacsis and spaga (or both) from investors both in the country and abroad to allow demolition of beautiful buildings that are both on the protection list and not. Shame on the Ministry of Culture and shame on those who do not respect the past.

It's excellent to see some top names in Roumania taking notice - but more than this is required...

Versus gathers VIPs in vintage photo shoot

Almost 50 public figures of Romanian cultural life accepted to take part in a joint project of master-photographer Eugen Ciocan and Andreea Berecleanu, meant to enhance awareness of the importance of Bucharest’s Historical Centre, which has been degrading, by the minute, for 20 years now. In melancholy, sepia or hand-painted, photographs you will recognise a series of personalities who no longer content themselves to sit and watch, thinking someone else should take the initiative.

The “Versus – Stars on the Ruins of the Historical centre” represents such an initiative. “If I had to contract our message in a manifesto-phrase, I’d say: ‘We’re alive, here and now. We want to live a normal, even a beautiful, life! We’d ask you, hence, to change this embarrassing, inadequate setting’”, Eugen Ciocan, art photographer and the spiritual father of the Fotocabinet concept, said.

Actually, the third Fotocabinet recently opened on Lipscani street, hosting the aforementioned exhibition. The 50 photographs show some of the personalities in Romanian culture, who allowed the artist to take their pictures, among piles of garbage and rubble, for a noble cause: saving the capital’s historical centre.
