Bucharest saved...at least for now

Please, please go and see this blog and read the following: It is wonderful, wonderful, wooooonderful that voices can be heard, that there are people who really do care about the future of Bucharest, its scars and its tears. A demonstration (pretty violent) took place on 30th September to STOP the fifty plus propositions to demolish parts of historical Bucharest and SUCCEEDED!!! Whooohooohoooo! The townhall didn't dare go against the furious mob of architects, students, journalists and heavens knows who else out there with their billboards fighting to keep the patrimony and history of this beautiful city through bricks and mortar.

I'm having the devil's own job finding articles on this monumental moment...does anyone have any I could post here, or at least include a link. Such a fabulous achievement deserves to be sung from the rooftops and yet I find practically nothing except for EVR.ro.

Bravo to the association Save Bucharest (see link right)!

Love, Sarah

This association deserves, indeed, all the accolades for members' hard work: rallies, petitions, writing in many papers about the Bucharest real estate mafia. What has been going on for the past ten years is simply CRIMINAL. Why? Because its inhabitants are tired, exhausted, impoverished, in a nutshell, apathetic after 50 years of communism. But that's not all: there has been a continuous influx of uneducated, people from all over Romania, who don't give a dam about the city's history. It makes one cry when comparing two former communist capitals: Prague and Bucharest. Nobody in Prague would dare erect a glass skyscraper next to St. Vitus Cathedral!
